Gouache is just Peachy
October is a popular month for art challenges — most famously, Inktober which began in 2009 as a daily personal challenge by artist Jake Parker with the goal of improving his inking technique.
A quick look at the art side of instagram in the spookiest month of them all will reveal many challenges - Mabs' drawloween, beartober, moontober and many more.
This year I chose to follow the Peachtober prompt list by illustrator Sha'an d'Anthes a.k.a. Furrylittlepeach. My goal was to complete the list within the month using gouache as the main medium.
I purchased the Himi jelly gouache set earlier this year and this proved to be a great opportunity to test it out.
The limitations of time and a new material means that not every piece was a winner, but i'm glad i pushed through as it was a chance to learn, and a lot of fun. The jelly gouache has a creamy consistency and mixed beautifully to unlock a wide world of colours.
Here are a few of my favourite pieces from October.
Out of curiosity I took a look at the analytics to see how my favourites compared to the likes the posts received on Instagram.
Peachtober was a ton of fun, and I'll certainly continue to use gouache in my sketchbook, but for now, it's time to take a break and switch gears.
